Excellent design can still be undermined by a construction phase that drifts on quality, slips on schedule or creeps on cost — and an owner rarely has the spare staff to stand at the shipyard and watch every plate go up. Blue Lines provides ship construction management and newbuilding supervision: experienced engineers acting as your representative at the yard, protecting your interest from contract signature through to delivery.

Construction is where design meets reality, and our design background is exactly what makes our supervision effective — we know what the drawings mean on the shop floor, and we know when what is being built does not match them. Our construction management and supervision scope typically covers:

Our process

1. Set-up and planning. We establish the project plan, quality standards, inspection and test plan, reporting structure and risk register before the first steel is cut.
2. Supplier and contract management. We support or lead contract negotiation and manage the network of shipyards, subcontractors and suppliers that feed the build.
3. Site supervision. Our representatives monitor construction against the approved drawings and Class rules, witness inspections and tests, and raise and track non-conformities.
4. Progress and cost control. We track schedule and cost, flag deviations early, and manage changes so surprises are caught while they are still cheap to fix.
5. Trials and delivery. We attend commissioning and sea trials, verify close-out of outstanding items, and support handover and delivery.

Standards & classification

Supervision is measured against the approved documentation and the rules behind it. We verify that construction follows the Class-approved drawings and the requirements of the relevant classification society — DNV, Lloyd’s Register (LR), ABS, Bureau Veritas (BV), RINA, PRS or RS — alongside the statutory framework such as SOLAS and MARPOL, and any flag-authority or national rules applicable to the vessel. Where the society’s surveyor attends key milestones, we coordinate so approvals and inspections proceed without delay.

Deliverables

Owners receive a structured flow of information and control: project and inspection plans, regular progress and quality reports, non-conformity and punch-list tracking, cost and schedule status, and witnessed test and trial records — through to a clean delivery. Our management services encompass everything from contract negotiation to quality control, keeping each phase moving while holding the line on quality and efficiency.
